White Vinegar to the Rescue!

Pour ½ cup white vinegar in with your liquid or powder detergent into the detergent compartment. If your bath towels are getting a little musty—especially items that are frequently damp, like sportswear or sweaty work clothes—try adding ½ cup of vinegar to the wash. The acid in distilled white vinegar will dissolve residue which can hold on to odors, make clothes look dingy, and make fabrics feel stiffer. Adding softener only masks the odor until the clothes becomes damp, and then the smell is back on an item that you could be wearing.
